now we can use items nameID inside useSelf_item blocks (maybe there's a better way to do this?)

Maybe there is. A fact whether an ID specified can be detected first (as it's a failsafe variant), as it's done for skills. There are also many other places where ID should be possible to specify for items or other stuff. For example, that failing items_control test in FileParsersTest.
