2.0.7 r6828 | Obsolete servers in servers.txt

#1 Post by Mushroom »

There are a lot if not all the the private servers configs are outdated or some servers doesn't even exist anymore. We should delete them and start from scratch and let Supporters keep updating/reporting them.
So, who agrees that a clean should be made?
Quit.

I agree.

I think, We should totally get rid of all the Private Servers from servers.txt
Plus, Each Official Server can have It's own Fixed ServerType.
Like:

Code: Select all

ServerType: euRO
Or (for eA, kRO Based):

Code: Select all

ServerType: kRO 2008-12-10a
So, OpenKore will have Fixed ServerTypes, Each binded to it's own Official Server.

Plus. Each Server can have it's own TableSet servers.txt entry inside "tables" folder:

Code: Select all

TableSet: euRO
That will load all the tables from the subfolder of "tables" if the loaded file exist there, else the default one.

for private server setting i can agree, but for official i must disagree since almost all official server have same settings (well some most of it) and to make it each of it would only make a bloat file. old times all official use ST0, and now it seperated.

for each table folder server setting, it's not really important since the only make it different for each file is only some of it :
- item names
- monster names
- skill names

and that's not important at all.. unless like recvpacket.

it's better to just optimize it and remove deprecated ST.

The original argument for server types is so that for an unknown preiously unsupported private server, we can iterate from 0 to n and eventually find a matching server type. The servers.txt was there to make stuff human-readable, the server type was never meant to be exposed to the user.

For example, consider the ideal scenario where we have all information about every server there is in the world. This information is fixed, will never change, and is captured inside servers.txt

When a user starts openkore he will be presented with a server list. He can just choose the server he is playing from on the list, and it will be supported. No servertypes there, because each server already has an entry.

The only reason why we're having users modify server type is because their servers are not supported (or they have stale information in servers.txt). That file should actually only be modified by testers who will determine the correct server type for a server, and change it accordingly, so that when the user updates his tables, he will find his server automatically supported.

Remember, the user is not supposed to know about the server type! The use case is that the user will simply select his server from the server list. If the server in the server list does not work, or his server is not present in the list, he should report it (ideally finding out the correct parameters as well). The average user does not need to know about server types!

Agree. But, since then, ServerTypes got messed up too much.
Currently, only Private Server users try to find their ST.

For Others, Better to just keep one per Official Server (save old ST files to some ARC file).
So keep them Organized. Like so:
1) Each Official Server Get it's own fixed ST.
2) Every ST has in it's header file name originally used for (Example 2009-6-21aRagexe)
3) All ST Except kRO have all the old (Deprecated ST's organized in one ARC file)
4) kRO has ST's for every known to be used binary file name.

So we can keep track of changes on Each Official Server. And Even track packets that we donno yet.

pservers got deleted from servers.txt

now, the next issue: http://forums.openkore.com/viewtopic.ph ... 871#p26840

EDIT:
the new servertypes got implemented and tables subfolders were made.
One ST0 to rule them all? One PE viewer to find them!
One ST_kRO to bring them all and in the darkness bind them...

Mount Doom awaits us, fellowship of OpenKore!
