Muspell Online
Muspell had a very successful run during its time online, we held a stable botting community and we were home to many skilled players. Unfortunately I had to close Muspell due to a lack of time available to run the server.

Re: Muspell Online: an OpenKore-friendly server!
I was really interested in setting up my own server that allowed botting. 1 question though, why classic..? no one cares about classic, people who joined classic servers, such as standardRO, oldschoolRO, retRO. all died very quickly because everyone gets bored of it.
I have to say though, I am tempted to join this server. I still might, wish it had more content and maps though.

Re: Muspell Online: an OpenKore-friendly server!
That's a good question. I want give you a reasoned and full answer because I put a lot of thought into the classic choice.
It's important to understand RO as a game that has been evolving for over ten years. The game we have today and the game we had years ago are two very different games. The newer content is undeniably unbalanced in comparison to the older content. Most of the time that I was creating this server my intention was to use it at eAthena's most recent configuration. I actually setup an offline server this way to test for about a month. I quickly made a level 90+ Sniper in less than two weeks with 1x rates starting from scratch, and I didn't really enjoy it. I found the challenge and charm of the original game, things I truly enjoyed about RO, were lost and completely overshadowed by all the new content. Newer maps and monsters like Hill Wind and Ice Dungeon along with new weapons like Earth Bow and Battlegrounds Weapons antiquated the older leveling spots, gears and cards. While there is technically more content and maps in newer RO, most of it replaces the old, and does not supplement it. I'm not saying they are bad additions, but it is important to understand there is a completely different metagame today than was in classic (circa episode 8.2) RO.
I care about classic and do not think it is boring. I wanted to focus my server on the original game and introduce players to the challenge that RO can be. I personally think classic is the most balanced and complete metagame RO ever had. On a current up to date server it's simply about getting to 99 as quickly as possible to transcend, skipping much of the content in the process. Instead of MVPs being ruled by one-shot asura, acid bomb or other nearly 1HKO attacks, I want to fight against MVPs and engage in WoE with the original challenges, including a refocus on teamwork. The original game was much harder than it is today in terms of leveling. Getting one or two million experience an hour was a feat achieved by few and required strategy and planning. Classic may sound easier, but I guarantee it isn't.
I understand my preference for the older metagame isn't universal and many people won't like it. For them, I think there are other servers available that would cater to that. I am interested in attracting a long term and committed player base willing to work for their characters and who want to eventually engage with other like-minded players at higher levels.

Thanks for such a good reply, I was never around the pre-trans RO. I joined when 2nd classes ex; lord knight, assassin cross, etc. were all implemented and things like nameless island came out.
By the way is your server advertised on Ratemyserver dot net? Do they allow bot servers to be listed? Anyways I probably will join, because I been looking for something new.

I have a thread on Ratemyserver's low rate server forum so yes, they do allow the listing of bot servers. I hope you do join. The server has had a slow but consistent population growth since it opened. I'm hoping we will eventually have enough to sustain a weekly WoE as well as large MVP parties.

Little gain to be had from botting when it's permitted.

You're statement isn't wrong for many cases, though it depends on the mentality of the player to measure gain. If the goal is to gain an advantage over players who don't bot then there is no gain at all, you are absolutely right. On the other hand, for players who enjoy playing with OpenKore as a game itself, the goal becomes the process instead where there is much to be gained. I know, speaking for myself, that I get enjoyment out of successfully executing bots. The server is aiming to please players that enjoy the process as opposed to the advantage.evilkawaii wrote:Little gain to be had from botting when it's permitted.
