picking up slotted gear

Hello there, first off let me thank byrd for the wonderful reply to my first post. Here's another question, to pick up slotted gear (amongst other rares), I should probably add the following--> [1] (or not?). If yes, should there be a space between the gear and the [1]. I searched the tables and this forum but it's still not clear to me. I've tried both (with and without space value) for slotted boots in argiope map but got/picked up none. Seemed a bit off after gaining 5 levels there. Or did I miss something and Argiopes don't drop them anymore altogether?

Pick up a pair of Shoes [1] , then type 'i' in console and figure out what they're actually called.
