will bots stay close to follow target when attacking?

Hey, I'd like to configure my bots to stay next to their follow target while attacking. I can make them ignore targets that are too far away, I believe, but they still 'take off' sometimes. I think what I need them to do is abandon a mob if it forces them to move too far away from their follow target? Anyone have any ideas?
